Read more about Lolo Jones and Lesley Ann Brandt
A successful career may conceal the most tragic of tales. A winner of both the USA and World championships in hurdle events, Lolo Jones has reached her current position after many years of hard work and an enormous amount of perseverance. Jones was the only child of a five-child family, and grew up in extreme poverty. She lived with her mom in the basement of a church, and was constantly on the go. The sporadic lifestyle made it necessary for Jones to change schools and attend an entirely new school each year until the time she entered in high school. Jones was kept apart from her family at Theodore Roosevelt for the purpose of competing in athletics in track and field. Jones lived in four distinct houses during her years of high school, so she could attend all of her classes in one location. Jones was part of the orchestra of the school in Iowa as well as the Gatorade Track and Field Award. She also won this prize in high school. As she began college, Jones proved to be one of the most skilled hurdlers. She won the 100-meter obstacle in 2002 at the NCAA Track & Field Championship. She also was part of the team that won the 100-meter relay. Jones is the NCAA champion in indoor hurdles both in the year 2003 as well as 2014. Jones began her track and field career in the year 2005, when she graduated from university. Jones won both her events, the Torino Memorial and the Heusden Track events that same year.
